Kayak for Cancer Event Highlighted in Ohio Park and Recreation Association Magazine
Ohio Parks and Recreation Association Connections Magazine Features Kayak For Cancer Event
Ohio Parks and Recreation Association (OPRA) is an organization representing nearly 1500 professionals striving to provide quality park and recreational facilities and opportunities throughout Ohio. The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) has been a member of OPRA for many years and was recently featured in the Winter edition of the Connections Magazine for an event that was held this past October, Kayak for Cancer.
The first annual Kayak for Cancer event was held at Atwood Lake Park on October 17, 2015. The event, created in response to Union Hospital's Paint Tusc Pink campaign, was designed to raise awareness for breast cancer and invited local residents to join an instructor-led paddle at Atwood Lake Park. The money raised by the participants was then donated to Union Hospital's Breast Imaging Center for equipment or to offset the cost of mammograms for those in need.
Although the air was crisp and cool, the sun was shining and it was a beautiful fall day. The leaves were changing, which provided vibrant colors along the shore, and a pair of bald eagles was spotted soaring overhead. Participants traveled from around the state including a mother and daughter, both of whom have battled the disease.
October 8, 2016 has been selected for the next Kayak for Cancer event which is open to the public. Check back for registration information and event details.
